A 5th ray cut out is a 45° or 65° clipping of them a distal lateral portion of the orthotic frame. The cut’s angulation begins at the 4th innerspace of the distal frame and terminates at the lateral edge of the frame. This clipping reduces the pressure the frame places on the 5th metatarsal head.
